Gordon Gold I am very attractive, soft, heavy, shiny, and a bright golden yellow color. Conducting heat and electricity is something I'm really good at. I can be hard to find, but people still insist on looking for me. In 1848 people in California, rushed to find me. Even though I'm hard to find, you can find me if you search hard enough on every continent on earth. Because of the similar appearance, pyrite sometimes gets confused for me so people gave them the nickname fool's gold. I'm not really sure who discovered me, but I've been around since ancient times. I used mainly by the ancient South Americans, Asians, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and Chinese. I also can be found in the ocean, as well as in earths crust. 1500 tons of gold are mined each year. A lot of me comes out of South Africa and China. In about every ton of water in the ocean there is approximately 1 milligram of gold dissolved in it. I form when molten lava cools into a hard surface. My chemical symbol comes from the the Latin word for gold, aurum. Compared to other metals I am less chemically reactive. I'm the purest when I'm soft, but usually I hang with other metals, such as my friends silver, copper, platinum and palladium, to make me stronger. Jewelers measure me using the measuring units of carts. A fun fact about me is that I am very pliable and that I can be made into thread. One ounce of me can stretch over 50 miles! Thin sheets of me, are known as gold leafs. They are mostly used in arts and crafts. One sheet of me as a gold leaf can be about 400 times thinner than a strand of human hair. I'm used to make jewelry and sometimes other odd things such as dental work. People usually associate gold with wealth and expensive jewelry. Even though people think I'm just used to accessorize, that isn't the case. I'm also very useful in helping to cure cancer using a radioactive isotope of gold known as gold-198. Also, gold sodium thiosulfate can be used to treat arthritis. Another thing that I'm secretly good at is preserving pictures by restoring the silver atoms that are in the image. Gold is the most popular precious metal for investments. Also when people come in first place in competitions or big important awards, the trophy or prize is always either the color gold, or it is pure gold. I get along with most elements, such as, acric chloride, calcite, chloauric acid, silver, copper, palladium, nickel, aluminum, alloy, indium alloy, cobalt alloy. I'm mostly always hanging out with minerals, quarts, pyrite, and platinum.
Monday: Today me and silver started to hangout. We clicked right away, we had a lot in common. We realized we are both admired by others. We’re a really good fit together. I hope to spend more time with silver in the future.
Tuesday: Hydrochloric acid and nitric acid were hanging out together again and every time they come near me I want to melt with anger. I don’t enjoy being around them when they are together.
Wednesday: Quarts and myself met up with each other, its been awhile since I’ve seen them. I’ve know quarts have a lot of history together. Considering we were made from the same molting lava. We talked a lot about the other minerals we formed with, such as pyrite and platinum.
Thursday: Air and water tried to make fun of me to get me to crack and get angry, but what they don’t know is they don’t effect me at all. Whatever they try can weaken my strong golden appearance.
Friday: Today I had to sit next to chlorine in class and we did not get along. For the start they just kept bugging me. I could take it so I had to ask my friend to change seats with me. Luckily he gladly traded seats.
Saturday: Aluminum and me went to the beach today, I went swimming of course. While I was swimming aluminum was just laying there reflecting the sun. I don’t understand how that is considered fun.
Sunday: Today copper was trying to tell me that their bronzey look was much more appealing then my gold appearance. That kind of got me upset so then I said that no one likes your look that's why they made you a penny and me a gorgeous bracelet. Copper didn’t take that too well.
